This exhibition – which covers 600 m² in the cut workshop of the Grande Carrière in Euville – presents the story of these fifty years which made Euville famous. It shows how important is this quarry throughout the exploitation of local stone in the area of Commercy, but also throughout the human aspect of the work, the progression in know-how, and the social life it has created…
The stone from the quarries of Euville – which was exploited from the second half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th was chosen to build the foundations of the most famous French buildings as: the Place Stanislas in Nancy – which is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Palais Garnier, the entablature of the Pont-Neuf, the Louvre Museum, the Gare de l’Est in Paris, the Royal Palace of Laeken and the Place de Brouckère Fountain in Bruxelles…

Around the site of the Grande Carrière, visitors can follow a signposted route – the “stone circuit” – in order to complete the exhibition in a half day.
Some interpretive signs give walkers information about the site of the quarries of Euville. You will go through the former quarries, the trench, the sandpit and the only stone company which is still in activity, Rocamat.
You can follow two different routes:
- the 75-minute route
- the 150-minute route
The circuit map is freely available at the Tourist Office of the Land of Commercy, on the site of the exhibition or you can download it below.
